Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard

This is a unique art center that has ties to Harvard University, but also runs mostly independent from the university. They have a strong sense of cultivation in their community. The Ceramics Program has at least 350 students at a time, independent and resident artists from the community using personal studio spaces and 2-3 artists in residence who were invited to come into the community using personal studio spaces.

The area is bursting with adjunct teaching opportunities as there are around 250 universities within a 20 mile radius of the center. There are many other ceramic programs in the city where those who don’t have a MFA can teach. Artist is residents are paid to teach classes at Arts at Harvard as well.

Finding affordable housing in the Boston area is tricky. Cost of living is very high there as well. Arts at Harvard provides some resources for their artist in residents to find potential housing options. They also have good relationships with the other ceramic centers in the area.

Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard is located within Boston which has excellent public transportation and bike friendly. This means you don’t need a car at all while there. I had some top notch oysters and lobster bisque while in the city, so in my book, that’s a big bonus too!
