Location: Gardiner, OR

Length: 2 residency programs:

  • Long Term: 1-2 years

  • Short Term: Varied - 2 weeks to 3 months

Housing: Studio and living space is combined in one private room which is included in the residency fee. The rooms are 1,000 sq. ft. or 500 sq.ft. and include access to a shared bathroom, showers, laundry and kitchen facilities. (partners and families are welcome)

Kilns: 3 electric barrel kilns and 1 gas that needs to be set up -up to ^6

Expenses:

  • Residents must bring their own materials with them (Reclaim clay is free)

  • Firing fees at cost

  • Long Term: residency fee of $800/month

  • Short Term: residency fee: Monthly = $1,000/month — Weekly = $300/week (Artists my choose a “Small Room” (500 sq.ft.) for a reduced fee of $500/month or $150/week)

Funding/Stipend: None

Workspace: Live-in/work-in 1,000 sq.ft. studio

Responsibilities: Artists will be asked to give a demonstration or teach in some capacity as a volunteer 1-2 hours/week with shared cleaning responsibilities of communal living spaces

Number of Residents: 4-5 artists at a time

Additional Opportunities:

  • As this is a young program, there are many planned improvements and developments in the works including a theatre, woodshop, photography dark room, metals shop, and a coffee shop.

  • Oregon Coast School of Art calls for artists who are independent and a person people, able to assist in building the artist community in Gardiner

  • Artists will have access to a communal sauna, full court basketball gym and weightlifting gym

  • The communal and educational nature of this residency program is designed for collaborations and the promotion of shared ideas and experiences

  • Additional paid teaching opportunities will be available on a case-by-case basis

  • This residency is designed to give practical experience that will enhance their careers in a variety of ways

  • Oregon Coast School of Art overlooks the Umpqua River and is a short drive to the ocean
