Location: Salem, NY

Length: Short Term: Artists may apply for any length of time between April-October

Housing: Artists can commute or stay in SAW housing for a fee

Kilns: Several electric kilns, 1 90 cu. ft. “Large Kiln” woodfire kiln, 1 18 cu. ft. “Flat Top Kiln” woodfire kiln, 1 3 cu. ft. “Spitfire Kiln” woodfire kiln, and 1 1 cu. ft. raku kiln

Expenses:

• SAW housing cost: Camping = $20/night; Arthouse = $40/night; Indoor Room = $60/night

• Studio: $40/day or $450/month

• Materials and firing costs

Funding/Stipend: None

Workspace: Private studio

Responsibilities: Contribute to the communal life at SAW including doing an artist talk and presentation, participating in studio visits and critiques, and open studios. Artists who are working and staying onsite for more than one week may anticipate participating in a weekly cooking and cleaning schedule

• SAW accommodates individual resident artists as well as group residencies for independent artists who wish to come with friends or lead a group project or workshop

• Residents may purchase access to SAW’s other shops and studios including Blacksmithing, Glass Blowing, Foundry, Wood Shop, Screen Printing, and Welding

• SAW is a good place for residents who wish to work on a shared project or individual project, learn a new discipline, or want a space to lead a private workshop
