Location: Marquette, MI

Length: Short Term: 2 and 3 weeks

Housing: Two bedrooms in the main house, both located on the second floor. Small Stone is located on the eastern side of the home with a large bay window with glimpses of Lake Superior. Tall Tree, is located on the western side of the home with glimpses of the St. Paul Cathedral and views of the cutest chicken coop. Each Artist has their own private room and closet. There is one full bath with a clawfoot tub/shower combo, sauna on the second floor, and a half bath on the first floor. The bathrooms are shared. Common areas include the front parlor, the landing, main dining room and kitchen, kitchen side porch and main side porch.

Kilns: 1 electric kiln

Expenses: Must bring any supplies needed with you to the residency or shipped to RSAR before arrival

Funding/Stipend: A limited amount of grants in the amount of $500 each year that can be applied for

Workspace: Each artist will have a private studio. When you apply to the residency, you may list the studio area and equipment needs you have.

Additional Opportunities:

  • All meals are included. Gourmet meals are prepared daily with care, featuring locally sourced and organic ingredients whenever possible

  • Equipment available include analog photography equipment (35 mm cameras, 4x5 camera, medium format camera (plus holga)), a darkroom (BW printing, alternative process and mural printing), digital photography (Epson printer), a lighting studio (basic lights, stands, tripods, and backdrop), a welder (wire and stick feed), power and hand tools, two larger looms, two large hand looms, carding equipment, basic spinning equipment, three sewing machines, a printing press, paper making equipment, screen printing (limited equipment and materials), painting easel, portable painting easel, a drawing horses and a library

  • Opportunity to engage with fellow artists and the local community through a range of optional activities including artist presentations, literature nights, open studio, and guest dinners

  • RSAR encourages spontaneous communal activities such as sketch walks, figure drawing sessions, and other collaborative projects tailored to the season and the needs of the artists
