Location: Middlesex, NY

Length: Long Term - 1-2 years

Housing: Optional - communal kitchen and bathhouse in separate buildings - community of 16 all live on campus

Kilns: 1 very large walk-in propane fired kiln, 1 car kiln, 1 smaller soft brick kiln, 2 electric kilns, 1 small Bailey gas kiln and 1 woodfire kiln

Expenses: Firings and housing

Funding/Stipend: Scholarships available

Workspace: Large shared studio

Responsibilities: 15 hours/week of support work for the community including clay and glaze making, loading kilns, cleaning the studio, and throwing a line of pottery with can be sold as part of the Guild’s production

Additional Opportunities:

  • Resident’s work can be displayed and sold including during their large annual sale

  • Paid teaching opportunities

  • Focus in functional pottery

  • Spiritual community following teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff - residents do not need to be in it, but are asked to be sensitive to it

  • Breakfasts and dinners are eaten together in the main house as a community - take turns making meals for the guild

  • Minimal WiFi and cell service is spotty - mostly available in main house
