“That residency was perfect for me. The living space is situated super close to the studio and it’s quite a small town so there’s not a lot of distractions keeping one from their work. Unfortunately, while I was there, I had a death in the family and needed to drive back and forth for a funeral, but everyone was extremely supportive and understanding through that process. When I returned, the residency offered me the perfect opportunity to process things and work away from the stress of family. The studio and living quarters are also situated just a short walk from the Wabash River, which allowed me several getaways immersed in nature. It’s quite a beautiful little town. It’s quite in the middle of nowhere however, the next closest city I believe was Evansville, IN, which was about 30 minutes away. It is nice to have a car for grocery shopping if you need anything more than what’s offered at the local Dollar General. The studios are relatively cozy …and the electric kilns have seen better days, but the autonomy to create and fire one’s work is quite valuable. They also have a soda kiln which fires very nicely. The living quarters and studio both foster close connections with other residents, but there is still enough room to allow for privacy.”
