Location: Sonoma, CA
Length: Long Term - 6 months - (January-July) (July-January)
Housing: Private studio apartment located in the Community Center a few doors down from the ceramics studio
Kilns: 1 soda kiln, 1 Raku kiln, 1 gas kiln, 3 electric kilns and 1 electric test kiln
Expenses: Discounted clay at cost
Funding/Stipend:
$750/month stipend
Free firing and materials within reason
Workspace: Personal studio space within the members ceramics community studio. Residents have 24 hour access to the studio while the studio is closed to the public 8pm-10am
Responsibilities: 20 hours/week studio maintenance
Number of Residents: 1 artist at a time
Additional Opportunities:
Solo one month long exhibition at end of residency
Present an artist talk to the Sonoma community
Paid teaching opportunities
There is a studio coordinator and on call tech to assist with anything that may come up
This residency is a top priority for the ceramics director at Sonoma Community Center providing a hands on, supportive atmosphere
Opportunities to learn kiln loading/firing, glaze mixing, selling/promoting work, teaching and conducting workshops, etc.
A van is available for resident use when not being used for other programing within the community center
A resident bike is available for use
Location is within walking distance to food, groceries, and Sonoma Square
Other studios in the community center include Fibers Studio, Printmaking Studio, Dance Studio, a Theater, and Music Studio. Residents are welcome to utilize these studios as well as take classes open to the Sonoma community
