Location: San Francisco, CA
Length: Long Term: 6 months (This residency is a project based residency specifically offered to black emerging ceramic artists)
Housing: None
Kilns: 8 electric kilns —Mid-range temperatures only
Expenses: Additional clay and materials past the $250 stipend must be bought at $25 a bag
Funding/Stipend:
$250 worth of clay and materials provided
6 month membership (valued at $1055) with resources at both their Potero and SoMa studios
Workspace: Residents are free to use any of the member only making spaces and are granted shelving space for personal storage
Responsibilities: Residents will assist in Clayroom’s member workshops and studio functions at least 2 hours/week
Number of Residents: 1 artist at a time
Additional Opportunities:
Receive mentorship and instructor training
At the end of residency, Clayroom will host an exhibition to showcase work completed by the artist in residence where they will provide an artist talk
Attend select classes (valued at $355)
Meet with Clayroom’s co-owner and residency coordinator once a week to touch base and maintain communication with the resident
Optional paid teaching opportunities based on interest and skill level
This is a hands on residency that can be flexible to the resident’s interests and needs
A Raku kiln is available at one of Clayroom’s other locations within the Bay Area
A full woodshop is available at another one of Clayroom’s other locations within the Bay Area
No car needed - good public transportation and very bike friendly
