Flower City Arts Center

Flower City Arts Center is a hub for makers in Rochester, NY in ceramics, printmaking, photography, paper making, digital art, and more. The ceramic artist residency program supports 2-4 residents. The resident studios are located in the basement level, separate from the main public studios on the main floor for privacy and space for uninterrupted making. Flower City also has a shop and gallery area for exhibitions. They host a large ceramic pottery invitational annually in the fall that brings in many excellent potters from around the country.

I had the opportunity to visit in the short period of time right before Christmas when the classes were ended and there was only a handful of people in the studio. This is a rare time of quiet in the studio as most of the time there are always independent people working and classes in progress. The space was well organized and uses their limited space efficiently. Flower City resides in a cool old firehouse. Everyone at Flower City had very positive and relaxed demeanors and I had some great conversations with them.

I had a wonderful time in Rochester and visiting Flower City Arts Center was definitely a highlight! They are doing a lot of good for their community, offering classes and opportunities for young students and local artists, exhibitions, shows and fundraising events.
